Junior Social Media Specialist


JUNIOR SOCIAL MEDIA SPECIALIST
(Student Assistant)

Workweek Class:                          Non-exempt                                                 
Rate:                                            $15.25/hour ($16.25/hour effective July 1, 2022)
Work Schedule:                            Up to 20 hours/week as developed with the Director of Graphics and Marketing
Intro/Training Period:                 Two months with the possibility of extension



GENERAL STATEMENT:

The U-SU Graphics department creates unique and cutting-edge design work for the University-Student Union. We are pursuing a highly motivated Junior Social Media Specialist who possesses strong, detailed-oriented skills in developing and administering social media content. As the Junior Social Media Specialist, you will be responsible for collaborating with the U-SU departments on all social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook to build an audience and ensure student engagement. This person will also monitor metrics, respond to reader comments, and oversee a social media calendar of posting.

RESPONSIBLE TO:   Director of Graphics and Marketing

 
SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
§ Willingness to work with an ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic student body and staff
§ Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
§ Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, and team-oriented atmosphere
§ Write long and short-form creative social media messages for engagement
§ Demonstrable social networking experience and social analytics tools knowledge
§ Excellent consulting, writing, editing (photo/video/text), presentation, and communication skills
§ Understand data to analyze what content works or if it needs to be reworked to be more effective
§ Help convert the U-SU brand fans into loyal followers with engaging, captivating, and responsible social media interactions

 
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
§ Work closely with the creative team on execution of social media strategy through research, benchmarking, messaging, and audience identification
§ Develop social media content plans that are consistent with the U-SU brand
§ Optimize the different platforms to increase the visibility of the various departments and U-SU as a whole
§ Moderate all user-generated content in line with the U-SU policy for each community
§ Define the essential social media key performance indicators (KPIs)
§ Generate, edit, publish and share content (original text, images, video, or HTML) that builds significant connections and encourages community members to take action
§ Create editorial calendars and posting schedules
§ Stay up to date with the latest social media best practices and technologies
§ Develop and submit a monthly report of work progress
§ Attends bi-weekly Graphics Department meeting
§ Attends the mandatory bi-annual U-SU employee training (U-SET)
§ Performs other duties as assigned.
