Media Services Assistant
Hourly Rate: $16.25 per hour; non-exempt classification
Work Schedule: Up to 20 hours per week as developed with the Senior Events & Technical Services Coordinator.
Training Period: Two months, with the possibility of extension.
General Statement:
Under the supervision of the Senior Events & Technical Services Coordinator, the Media Services Assistant provides technical assistance for performances and events in the U-SU Theatre, Grand Ballrooms, Conference Rooms, and Outdoor free Speech Areas. Setting up and/or operating AV equipment, stage lighting, sound equipment, and provides custodial services for designated media areas.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for set-ups and break-downs of student union equipment.
- Assist in theatre productions – load-in and out of stage props, set-up, and operate. lighting
- consoles, video mixer/switcher, video projectors, & hang and focus light instruments for performances, events, rehearsals, and classes.
- Assists in sounds set-up’s – Operation and set-up of soundboards, microphones, speaker/monitors, and in-house paging system.
- Performs set-ups and break-downs of tables, seating, and a/v equipment as needed.
- To provide reasonable coverage for after operating hours performances and events.
- Assist in staffing special events (i.e. Mardi Gras, Spring Fest, etc.).
- Responsible for reading and planning daily work based on information extracted from operation reports.
- Perform set-up and break-down of risers platforms.
- Attend to and report on events as scheduled.
- Inspects and performs follow-up on assigned tasks.
- Performs trash removal.
- Performs vacuum & carpet cleaning as needed and directed.
- Performs stripping and waxing as needed and directed.
- Performs minor electrical repairs on audio-visual equipment.
- Ensure that facilities are locked and secure after performances and events.
- Reports any unusual occurrences to supervisors.
- Enforces Union policy and operating procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Willingness to work with an ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic student body and staff.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 70 pounds.
- Ability to work without direct supervision.
- Read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
- Ability to adapt to daily operational changes.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Provide technical assistance for performances and events.
- Ability to set-up and operate AV equipment.
- Perform operation/maintenance of lighting and/or sound equipment.
- Customer service experience preferred.
- Computer experience preferred.
