JUNIOR GRAPHIC DESIGNER
(Student Assistant)

Workweek Class:                        Non-exempt                                               
Rate:                        $16.25/hour
Work Schedule:                           Up to 20 hours/week
Intro/Training Period:                 Two months with the possibility of extension

GENERAL STATEMENT:
The U-SU Graphics department creates unique and cutting-edge design work for the University-Student Union. We are pursuing a highly motivated Junior Graphic Designer that possesses strong, detailed-oriented skills in developing creative and innovative designs. As the Junior Graphic Designer, you will be responsible for collaborating with the U-SU departments to create inspiring design projects using a wide range of mediums, including but not limited to print, digital, and social media marketing.

RESPONSIBLE TO:   Director of Graphics and Marketing

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
§ Willingness to work with an ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic student body and staff
§ Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
§ Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, and team-oriented atmosphere
§ Strong communication skills with the ability to participate in constructive conversations on design concepts or professional development areas
§ Fundamental foundations of design, layout, and typography are preferred
§ Hands-on experience in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign is preferred
§ Ability to develop compelling concepts and translate them visually on a variety of different platforms
§ A portfolio of sample work is required.
§ Efficient on the Macintosh platform and Microsoft office is preferred
§ Understanding of the different social media platforms is preferred
§ Prior work experience, in general, is preferred

 
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
§ Work closely with the creative team on execution of concepts to final developed product
§ Create all digital assets for web and social media promotions
§ Prepare design files for print production
§ Archive all digital assets for each promotional campaign
§ Maintain project lists and folders
§ Coordinates print production with the Graphics Coordinator
§ Assist in photoshoot setup and taking event photos
§ Assist in large format signage installation
§ Develop and submit a monthly report of work progress
§ Attends bi-weekly Graphics Department meeting
§ Attends the mandatory bi-annual U-SU employee training (U-SET)
§ Performs other duties as assigned.
